Southampton Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice
Would you like someone to listen to you?Does life feel like its getting on top of you?
Could you benefit from a place to take some time-out?
I am Jo Hooper and I have been a practising counsellor in Southampton for the past 4 years. I am committed to providing counselling in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
I work with individuals on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling you to enhance your life and to live it more fully.
Who am I?
Essentially I am someone who loves working with people.
I qualified as a registered nurse for people with learning disabilities in 1986, and have continued to work in this field ever since, in various roles. A huge part of this work is about understanding how individuals communicate, in order to build positive relationships, because then I can make a positive difference to their lives: what a privilege.
In order to widen and deepen these skills, I decided to retrain as a Counsellor.
My counselling journey commenced in 2001, when I started studying for my first formal qualification, and has continued ever since. I achieved a Diploma in Counselling, accredited by the BACP, from Southampton University, in 2005. I have also studied the BA in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and will graduate once I have accrued the relevant number of hours.
Both the nursing and counselling experiences have confirmed my belief that each individual has a valuable contribution to make to society; I see my role as someone who can play a part in helping people to gain more insight into themselves, which can empower and help people to make more choices.
I have worked with people on issues such as
I work with adults of all ages.
My practice is in Portswood, Southampton, which is a 20 minute walk from Southampton Central train station, or a 5 - 10 minute walk from central Portswood.
