Jo Hooper Counselling
Frequently Asked QuestionsCosts?I charge £40.00 for a 50 minute session, but will negotiate a rate for those on lower incomes
What happens during a session? Essentially, for me, the counselling process is about me actively listening to my clients. By "actively" I mean making interventions, when I feel it is appropriate, to enable the client to learn more about themselves and their issues. During the initial sessions I may need to ask more questions than in later sessions. This is to help me get an idea of the issues the client is bringing. The work is confidential. I make some hand written notes after the session, which clients can always ask to see: these are kept stored where no-one else has access to them. In line with "good practice" I undertake regular supervision with a supervisor who also follows ethical codes of practice. The full identity of the client is not revealed at supervision.
How often? I usually meet with clients each week, but this will be discussed in our first session. At the end of the first session I agree with the client whether they wish to continue attending; there is no obligation to do so. We also agree whether they want a fixed number of sessions or on-going sessions, which can be reviewed at any time. I cannot predict how many sessions clients will need, as everyone is different. However, I believe, it is the relationship between the client and the counsellor, which is most important.
